Why are Christmas trees so bad at sewing?
They always drop their needles!

Welcome to Christmas at Oake Manor Golf Club. It’s a whole big bauble of emotion, yet we do still get crazy excited about Christmas tree’s and face paint!

It began in November, the dreaded Christmas decorations…

Actually, we had a great time putting up Christmas decorations. Most full time team members were helping and when you work so closely with everyone, you eat with them, drink with them, cry with them, laugh with them, they become like family. And laughing together is definitely what we did.

Our first Christmas Party kicked off in November, a Night at the Movies! When we discovered we had a photobooth coming for the Christmas Parties we were straight in there – our pin board got so full of photobooth pictures, it ended up looking like a London bus on a Monday morning.

Christmas Parties are one of the things we are very well known for and yes, they have a lot of pressures but it’s so satisfying when everything goes smoothly and everyone is happy with their food and service and ready for DJ Dave Lee with the disco!

The pantomimes were personally some of my favourite times over Christmas. I was Santa’s elf over Christmas, I got little jingly bells and was to allowed to wear as much glitter as I wanted!!

Excited children is one of the best parts of Christmas I’m sure you’ll agree. I got to see so many children, so happy to be seeing santa claus on a day out with their families. We even got some Christmas lists that the children had written and given to santa.

As soon as the pantomime started and all of the families disappeared into the show room, it was a race for us – who could get to the face painter first! It cannot be Christmas at Oake Manor without face paint!

Cracker jokes are a big part of our lives at Oake Manor, it’s not a Christmas party without getting read the same cracker joke at least 5 times a night. At our Christmas meals with our families, we know all the answers.

A lot of hours by everyone, got put in over Christmas, when my family spoke to me on Christmas day, all I had to talk about was work, but I love it. It’s been a rollercoaster but I wouldn’t have wanted to share it with anyone else but my Oake Manor family.

We obviously had to celebrate ourselves however…

We had an awards evening where employee of the year got announced (well done Emily) and our secret santa presents were given out. A few drinks were involved and the party continued in town. The celebrations did not stop there. On new years day, 33 of us flew to Edinburgh, and had two nights there for our staff Christmas Party. Everyone had such a good time and now we’ve hit January, we have to wait another year for another Oake Manor Christmas.

Our Employee of the Year 2017 ~ Emily Douthwaite-Hodges!! 🙂
