Dr. Paul Atterbury Hon. DPhil BA (Hons.)is one of the UK’s best known antiques experts, playing a leading role for 24 years in the BBC Antiques Roadshow, as it travels across the nation. With his trademark striped blazers and amazing in-depth knowledge, he alternatively delights and disappoints the public who bring in their treasures.

A gifted broadcaster, his easy manner fits well with one of the UK’s longest running and most popular television programmes. His mother was the hand that controlled Andy Pandy and the Flower Pot Men. Born in London and educated at Westminster School, Paul Atterbury gained knowledge at Sotherbys and Royal Doulton, becoming established as a writer on ceramics, antiques, design, sculpture and silver.

Today, he lectures extensively across the world and on cruise ships. A long association with the Victoria and Albert Museum led to curating four major exhibitions there – including Pugin, a Gothic passion – plus others at UK and American museums. He has written over 40 books, a best-selling railway and canal author. Paul Atterbury’s most recent book is topically The First World War in 100 family stories. Paul Atterbury married Chrissie, a Portland girl and they have lived in Dorset since the 1990s.
